Co-operative Charity of the year - RNID
Print this page

Following a nationwide colleague and member vote across the Co-operative Family of businesses the The Co-operative is championing RNID as its 2009 charity of the year. Deafness and hearing loss affects the quality of life for millions of people in the UK. From the hard of hearing to the profoundly deaf, the condition can lead to frustration and isolation from society
This year, The Co-operative is aiming to raise over £2million to transform RNID’s ‘Hear to Help’ service from a successful pilot into a national service with 22 projects, serving over 18,000 vulnerable deaf and hard of hearing people throughout the UK. And we have made a great start with our staff already raising £600,000.

What is Charity of the Year?
Last year The Co-operative raised £2.9 million for our charities – The Children’s Society and Diabetes UK resulting in thousands of vulnerable children and adults benefiting from our fundraising.
The Co-operative charity of the year partnership is fully supported throughout our family of businesses and communicates to the wider world our co-operative values and community concern.
Hundreds of local fundraising events take place in branches, offices and stores during the yearlong partnership. These alone raise over half of our final income total!
Our charity partner has to deliver local services that make a tangible difference to the beneficiaries or cause they champion.
