Finnair Update

Finnair offer a text message check-in service which is now in use in London and Manchester –    have your  boarding pass sent directly to your mobile phone

The text message check-in service offered to Finnair Plus members can now also be used for departures from London and Manchester. The service is automatically available to Finnair Plus members when their mobile phone number is updated in their Finnair Plus profile.

Before the flight Finnair sends an SMS to Finnair Plus members with flight information. The customer checks that the information is correct and accepts the check-in by sending a reply message with the letter A. When check-in has been accepted, Finnair sends a confirmation message (always in English). In Finland and Sweden the passenger has to show this confirmation message at airport service points.

The confirmation message includes a link to a mobile boarding pass On departure from London, Manchester and Copenhagen, a mobile boarding pass is shown to the authorities. The mobile boarding pass can be opened through a link included in the message. The phone has to be equipped with a functioning Internet connection.

If the customer is unable to open the link, he or she is advised to pick up a paper boarding pass from the check-in desk. Multimedia text messages are no longer used on departure from Copenhagen.

At the airport the passenger can go straight to the security control if travelling with only carry-on baggage. If the passenger needs a paper boarding pass, it can be picked up at the Baggage Drop desk, where checked baggage also can be dropped off within normal check-in times. At all other airports in Finland, except Helsinki-Vantaa, checked baggage is left at the normal check-in desk.

For flights departing in the morning, the check-in text message is sent the previous evening between 17:00 and 19:00, and for flights departing in the afternoon, the message is sent about 3 hours before departure time. All flight segments of the out- or inbound journey are included in the same message and confirmed at the same time.

Until now Finnair Plus members have been able to check-in by SMS to Finnair and Finncomm Airlines domestic and international scheduled flights departing from Finland and to Finnair international scheduled flights departing from Stockholm, Gothenburg and Copenhagen – also when the journey includes a connecting scheduled flight with Finnair or Finncomm from Helsinki. The easy-to-use SMS check-in service works in all telephone models and with all operators. It does not require any new installations and the cost is the same as for a normal text message.

The service is not available for code-share flights operated by Finnair partners, Finnair Leisure flights, Finnair Plus award flights and journeys that include a connecting flight with another airline.
