We rank highly among the UK’s leading businesses for charitable activities, both in terms of our monetary contribution and voluntary work. Our activity covers a broad range of charitable activities and projects in the community, together with funding social enterprise initiatives.
- The Co-operative contributed £10.4m (6.9% of pre-tax profit) to the community in 2007
- 64% of the Co-operative’s contributions were classified as ‘community investment’
- Our Community Fund donations totalled £1.2 million last year
- Total donations since the Community Fund was launched in 1997 stands at £7 million, benefiting thousands of local projects, clubs and communities
- Our Co-operative Foundation has assisted 550 different projects since inception in 2000, donating nearly £10 million in that time
- We raised £2.9m for the Group’s Charities of the Year 2007

We are especially proud of the personal contribution of our employees, which demonstrates the quality of our people and their commitment to making a real difference in their local communities.
During 2007, 9,898 employees had taken part in community activities, contributing the equivalent of 118,983 hours.
This donation of employee time equates to £1,450,000.
