There are reports this morning that fire-fighters are battling a major forest fire close to the city of Athens.

The forest fire, on the slopes of Mount Parnitha is being contained but a plume of black smoke is towering over the city.

It is thought the cause of the fire could be electricity pylons, but arson is not being ruled out.

Aircraft are currently dropping water on the fire but strong winds are fanning the flames. The fire is currently 30 km from the city centre
